Parents becoming medical workers at home, no choice given

I actually dug into this Hechinger Report story and it's hitting me hard. States are essentially asking parents, especially mothers, to become trained medical technicians for their medically complex kids at home because there's a massive shortage of actual home care workers. The Ferderers' story about learning to manage their daughter Elliott's oxygen equipment, feeding tubes, and cardiac medication before leaving the hospital is just one example, but here's what matters: this totally derails women from any education or career plans. If you're training to do medical-level care at home, you're not in school or working outside the home, which means delayed degrees, lost income, and years out of the workforce. This policy gap is real and it's disproportionately affecting mothers who already bear most caregiving responsibilities.
