What happens to financial aid if I drop a class

Been thinking about dropping a class cause it's kicking my butt way more than I thought it would. Thing is I'm scared it's gonna mess up my financial aid and I don't know what happens then. Has anyone dealt with this before? Like do they actually pull money back or what.
