Private Grants and Scholarships for Washington Women
- Washington College Grant: One of the most generous state grant programs in the country. Students with household income under 70% of the state median may receive grants covering up to full tuition. File the FAFSA or WASFA to be automatically considered.
- Washington State Opportunity Scholarship: Specifically funds students pursuing STEM or healthcare degrees in Washington. Awards up to $5,000 per year and targets first-generation students and those from underrepresented backgrounds. Apply at wsac.wa.gov.
- WorkSource Washington: Washington's workforce development network distributes WIOA training funds for adults seeking new careers. Find your local WorkSource office at worksourcewa.com.
- Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award: For women who are the primary financial supporters of their household. $1,000 to $10,000. Apply at Soroptimist.org.
- Jeannette Rankin Foundation: For women 35 and older with financial need. Apply at Rankinfoundation.org.
- Local community foundation: Search "Washington community foundation scholarship" for awards specific to your county.
Workforce Training in Washington
Washington has one of the strongest need-based grant programs in the country. The Washington College Grant can cover a significant portion of tuition for women with lower incomes. Washington also has a strong network of workforce training programs through WorkSource.
Contact your local Washington workforce office and ask about WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) training funds. WIOA can pay for tuition, books, childcare, and transportation for programs in high-demand fields like healthcare, IT, and skilled trades.
