Private Grants and Scholarships for Virginia Women
- G3 (Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back): The G3 program provides tuition assistance at Virginia community colleges for students in high-demand programs including healthcare, IT, and public safety. Eligibility is income-based. Apply at vccs.edu/g3.
- FastForward: FastForward offers a 33% tuition discount on short-term workforce credentials at Virginia community colleges in high-demand fields. Combined with Pell Grant funding, this makes short career training very affordable.
- Virginia Business and Professional Women's Foundation: Offers scholarships for Virginia women over 25 enrolled in a Virginia college. Apply at bpwva.org.
- Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award: For women who are the primary financial supporters of their household. $1,000 to $10,000. Apply at Soroptimist.org.
- Jeannette Rankin Foundation: For women 35 and older with financial need. Apply at Rankinfoundation.org.
- Local community foundation: Search "Virginia community foundation scholarship" for awards specific to your county.
Workforce Training in Virginia
Virginia has an excellent community college system and several workforce credential programs with strong funding. The G3 program and FastForward together can make short-term career training extremely affordable. If you are pursuing a healthcare or IT credential in Virginia, check these programs before you enroll.
Contact your local Virginia workforce office and ask about WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) training funds. WIOA can pay for tuition, books, childcare, and transportation for programs in high-demand fields like healthcare, IT, and skilled trades.
