Private Grants and Scholarships for Michigan Women
- Michigan Reconnect: If you are 25 or older without an associate degree, Michigan Reconnect pays your community college tuition after the Pell Grant is applied. One of the best adult learner programs in the country. Apply at MIReconnect.com.
- Michigan Works!: Michigan's state workforce system distributes WIOA training funds for healthcare, manufacturing, IT, and skilled trades. Find your local office at michiganworks.org.
- Urban League of Michigan: The Urban League of Greater Detroit offers scholarships for Black women pursuing education in Michigan. Contact your local chapter.
- Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award: For women who are the primary financial supporters of their household. $1,000 to $10,000. Apply at Soroptimist.org.
- Jeannette Rankin Foundation: For women 35 and older with financial need. Apply at Rankinfoundation.org.
- Local community foundation: Search "Michigan community foundation scholarship" for awards specific to your county.
Workforce Training in Michigan
Michigan has a strong workforce development system through Michigan Works!. In addition to WIOA, Michigan offers sector-specific training grants in advanced manufacturing and healthcare. Some large employers partner with community colleges to offer free or subsidized training programs.
Contact your local Michigan workforce office and ask about WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) training funds. WIOA can pay for tuition, books, childcare, and transportation for programs in high-demand fields like healthcare, IT, and skilled trades.
